Apples, Pears and the End of Summer
Share
Even though the days are still very hot and we haven’t had nearly enough rain, the mornings are already getting cooler.
And that always means one thing – autumn is slowly on its way.
I have to admit, I’m looking forward to it. I love all those autumn colors, the changing leaves, warm cups of coffee and that cosy feeling that comes with the season.
But at the same time, I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet.
Maybe that is why apples and pears feel so perfect right now.
Not pumpkins yet. I am definitely not ready for pumpkins in August. :)
Just apples and pears.
They belong to this little moment between summer and autumn – when the garden is still full of summer, but you can already feel that something is changing.
And there is a little nostalgia in these coasters for me too.
I actually crocheted apples and pears many years ago when I was living in the USA, and they were incredibly popular. I hadn’t made them for a long time, but this year I suddenly felt like bringing them back.
This time I changed them a little.
I added the black edging, which gives the shapes more definition and makes the colors stand out much more. They still remind me of the ones I made years ago, but they feel a little more like me now.
I like that.
Sometimes it is nice to return to an old idea and make it again with all the things you have learned in between.
And perhaps that is another reason they feel right for this time of year.
The end of summer always makes me a little nostalgic.
The days are getting shorter, school is about to start again, apples are ripening, and autumn is waiting just around the corner.
But summer is still here.
So for now, I’m keeping both.
A little summer, a little autumn – and a few apples and pears on the table.
